You look round your home and see litter building up. All of a sudden, you decide to declutter your house but do not know where to start. You start by the firm determination to declutter and organize your house. A general declutter day might be scheduled or a room by room or area by area approach can be made. Whatever schedule that you decide on, it should be followed so that confidence and fulfillment results in the final analysis.

litter results when you are a rat pack or a compulsive hoarder. Have you seen the reality shows on TV about people who hoard enough things to fill a whole warehouse? These folks needed help to declutter then organize their homes and their lives again. Having a clean and neat home permits you to think better and make life simpler.

When you expect inflow of gifts during occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, Xmas or baptisms then the key to stop litter is by pre-organizing. Look around your space and decide where to put the added items. If you’re expecting gifts for children then choose which old toys or clothing can be disposed of. You can have a box for which to put the new items or for the old ones that can be given or disposed of to make room for the fresh ones. You declutter then pre-organize which may take off the strain after the occasion or event.

For sure, you have items and things that you keep but do not actually use anymore. Those things might be there for emotional reasons but they occupy space so you have got to declutter then organize where it can be stored. Continually check for toys, garments, paper or documents, etc. That you may not need anymore. Youngsters grow beyond clothes faster and you may have clothes that are out of style. These can all be donated to the Salvation Army or given to the less lucky in your community. There are things that must be weeded out. Toss or shred documents that you now do not need to keep. Put in a garbage bag, the clothes and toys that aren’t serviceable anymore.

If you want to declutter and organize, you can settle on a theme for your home. It could be a color scheme or a motif. When you decide on this, you can take out things that do not go with the theme. A theme can help you pick which items to keep and which ones to store for later use.

‘Clean as you go’ is not just a fast food operations slogan but can be applied to your house also. Everyone in your household must follow this rule. Even little kids can follow this by placing their toys on designated places when they are done with playing. The slogan can most apply to the kitchen. When you clean right away your work space, organize and store implements and ingredients, you are decluttering and this is a very good practice.

When you look round your house, imagine a signal that announces’Start here.’ you may then follow through on your call to declutter and organize your space as you schedule it.
