`My clients and potential clients tell me that they are being told by “phone jockeys” that all their interest and penalties can be removed, as well as other wild phony promises of saving money. Some are being told that all you need to do is file an offer in compromise or a bankruptcy and your IRS problems will go away, when most often, a more comprehensive solution is necessary. These lawyers, and enrolled agents prey on your ignorance and fear. A lot of people are afraid of the truth and don’t want to deal with their tax problem. They want someone to say, for example, “Sign this form, fill out this other form, and pay me $500, and everything will be settled”. Guess what? They are told what they want to hear. Then, when they continue to have tax problems, they complain that their lawyer or tax advisor ripped them off. Even worse is when they sign monthly bank drafts and later discover they were cheated by their representative. They have to change banks because the bank drafts from these crooked companies don’t stop, and bill collectors are sent after them, if they try to stop the bank draft! Protect your funds.
